12.2hh 6 year old Dartmoor Mare
FOR SALE: 12.2hh 6 year old Dartmoor mare.
Pepper has been with us nearly 3 years and together with our 10 year old son they have grown and learnt together.
She is a fabulous lead rein pony with two great summer seasons under her belt. She has taken part in gymkhanas, dressage on and off lead rein always getting low 60s % and also Show Jumping classes up to 40cm on and off lead rein winning end of season trophies with two different riding clubs! She has a cracking jump and would go higher with a more experienced rider. Not at all spooky at fences including fillers. Always in the ribbons and never comes home empty handed! Has not seen XC fences.
She has taken part in pony club rallies taking everything in her stride and also spent a week at our local riding club being used by various children on 10 miles hacks in groups of up to 15 horses. Happy to go up front, in the middle and behind. Although she hasn’t hunted with us we believe she would be absolutely fine as didn't hot up at all being out in large groups.
We haven’t done any showing as it’s not really our thing, but I’m confident she would do well as she is really well put together with beautiful floaty paces. Please bear in mind though that she doesn't have a breed society passport just a normal PetLog one.
Pepper is ideal as a lead rein pony, she can take it steady if needed or step up a gear pretty much as fast as her leader can run beside her - which the rosettes go to show! She would be equally as great as a second pony with a confident little rider who’s happy to get after her and encourage her forward. Bearing in mind she is only 6 coming up for 7 years old and has spent the majority of her ridden life so far as a lead rein pony, she is not entirely sure what's required of her off lead rein and as a result can be a bit lazy off lead and typically cheeky. If the rider is confident she can be easily pushed through this and will work with a more focussed, forward attitude but she is not a push button ride off the lead rein and needs more miles under her belt in this regard.
On the yard Pepper is such an easy pony, happy to live in or out, stands to be groomed by the kids for hours, fine for the farrier, to load, for teeth, clipping etc. She lives on fresh air! Never had lami, never been sick or sorry in any way. An absolute poppet to take to shows will stand tied up with a haynet, not phased by new surroundings or lots of horses in warm up rings etc.
Photos show my two sons and niece riding her on and off lead rein. It’s my older son that rides her primarily and it’s now time for him to move on to something else that can give him some guidance, show him the way forward with his own riding and allow him to progress rather than needing to educate the pony.
Recent vet inspection for use at the riding school (copy can be provided) but open to vetting again if required. Also welcome to seek references on her from Annabelles Equestrian or our other instructor as to her capabilities and suitability.
