Horse & Hound’s position on buying and selling horses during Covid-19 pandemic
We are actively discouraging owners and buyers from either visiting yards to view horses or allowing viewings.
Adverts will be online for 16 weeks, so all horses should be available once the lockdown is over.
Use this time to browse and start your buying or selling process. Ask sellers questions via phone or email, watch videos, organise your finances and get insurance quotes.
We want to help keep this part of our industry alive and help horses continue to find ideal homes.

Bay gelding, Irish Sport Horse, 12 years old (2020), 16 hh

Sam is a nice hack or RC horse.  He is good-natured and uncomplicated, easy to manage and ride.  He has good conformation and no vices. He is good to catch and load / travel.  He is good to shoe and his hooves are excellent quality. He is good at having his teeth done (no sedation necessary).

Fully up to date with all vaccinations, worming and dentist. He is fully shod, fit and in regular work.

Sam hacks alone and in company.  He is good in traffic including tourists’ cars, motorbikes and bicycles but can be fearful when faced with large vehicles such as bin wagons, big delivery vans or ready-mix cement lorries.  He is happily accustomed to cattle, sheep, loose-running dogs as well as walkers and cyclists on the open moorland bridlepaths.  He will walk calmly through the middle of a herd of Highland cattle on the local moor.

Sam strides out well in walk, has a lovely trot and will canter steadily when asked.  He has never bucked and doesn’t get silly for example when anticipating a canter or when first time out after a holiday break.

Snaffle-mouthed (French lozenge link).

His owner has hacked him in the Derbyshire Peak District hills 4 days a week in all seasons so he’s a fit and sound horse.

He goes nicely on the flat, having done weekly flatwork/schooling sessions and once-a-month fun days which include dressage tests, polework and riding in a group.  Sam’s owner does not do jumping but a young friend has ridden him over show jumps and Sam thoroughly enjoyed himself. His previous owner did working hunter classes with him and said he was a natural jumper.

Lives out 24/7 all the year round with pony companion, but he would be happy to be stabled if that’s preferred.

Sam is a well-mannered, friendly, calm and sensible gentleman and will give many years of riding pleasure to whoever buys him.  He needs a home where he can be ridden mainly off the roads.

Kent and Masters saddle, bridle, Neue Schule bit, reins, numnahs, girth and turnout rugs (all tack in very good condition) open to reasonable offers.

Reason for sale – owner’s old age means he has decided to give up keeping horses and now wants to find a good home for Sam.
