Salary: 22,860 Plus 3,830 London Weighting Allowance
To assist in managing the Force’s stables at Bushey Park, Hampton, Middlesex and to manage the facilities used by the CoLP at Bushy Park on a day-to-day basis. Ensure appropriate care is provided to all horses owned or under the control of the City of London Police.
To coordinate, deliver and provide advice on the training of horses of all types, breeds and temperament, to a level where they can undertake Mounted Police duties.
To coordinate and deliver the training to Police Officers in equitation skills and knowledge, ensuring continual development and competence. To coordinate and conduct equitation courses to the required standard as directed.
To provide advice and deliver to the City of London Police on the care and welfare of Police horses.
The following skills and abilities are required for the role:
Work within the guidelines effective stable management regime which will maximise the operational efficiency of the Mounted Branch.
To provide advice to line management on the care, welfare and training of horses, under the control of the City of London police.
Provide advice to the mounted branch officers on the care, welfare and training of Police Horses.
To deliver training courses to police officers in accordance with the NPCC Mounted Working Group syllabus.
To ensure that adequate training is provided to City of London ACPO officers to enable them to participate in ceremonial duties on horseback when required by their role within the City of London Police.
To work as a sole worker, when required, providing the day-to-day care for City of London police horses and other horses in their care at Bushy Park,Hampton,Middlesex.
To maintain health and wellbeing of horses in the care of the City of London Police.
Experience of travelling horses and associated risks.
Experience of assessing, selecting and purchasing of horses for specific roles.
Experience of training and developing all types of horses including young/partially trained, or difficult horses including school work, road work and general behaviour and handling.
Management experience of working in a range of equestrian facilities including managing staff, resources, budgets, and dealing with clients, professionals and outside organisations.
Experience of assessing and instructing adults of all ages and ability in practical equitation, stable management and the associated theory - BHS Level 3 – Complete horsemanship & Coaching or BHS AI (Assistant Instructor).
