We are looking for a hard-working and motivated team player to join the Knowledge & Skills team at The Horse Trust. This role would suit an individual who has strong practical skills and experience, is a confident presenter and who wants to develop and apply their knowledge of equine behaviour and welfare, as well as their administration and office skills.
The Horse Trust is committed to providing high quality, practical and experiential training that enables equine professionals to develop within their role. The demand for our training and the audiences we are reaching is increasing, so this is an exciting time to join our small team as a Training Officer. You will assist the Training Manager in all aspects of creating and delivering The Horse Trust’s internal and external training programmes, including developing training materials, and having a large role in course administration. You will also be responsible for presenting classroom-based, online, and field-based training to a wide range of audiences, including the emergency services.
A practical candidate will have the opportunity to assist with producing and implementing, individual behaviour modification plans if required for our equine residents. Along with practically applying this to retraining horses.
Our equine residents are always our main priority; you may be required to help with yard work, equine admissions and assisting with other practical duties.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate practical competence and experience in handling a variety of horses, in different settings, and must have knowledge of the practical application of equitation science (learning theory) or be prepared to undertake training in this area. Candidates must also demonstrate excellent communication skills and be confident in presenting to a range of audiences. Ideally the successful candidate could also have a Level 3 (or above) equine qualification or similar. A recognised teaching and/or assessing qualification would be an advantage, or you must be prepared to undertake this once in post.
You will be keen to work in a team environment where the focus for the Training Officer is to continuously learn and further expand their skills and experience. We are looking forward to hearing from candidates that are effective communicators and presenters, who use innovative techniques to motivate and inspire learners, and who are passionate about equine behaviour.
