Level 2 & Level 3 Racing Apprenticeships with the Scottish Racing Academy

The Scottish Racing Academy are delighted to be partnering with Myerscough College to offer Level 2 & Level 3 Racing and Breeding Apprenticeships for those within a certain radius of Scotland (Cumbria, Northumberland, North Yorkshire). We will support both employers and potential apprentices to be successfully matched and complete all paperwork. Applications can be taken from existing members of staff, or we can support the recruitment of additional members of the workforce. If employers would like to enrol any of their current staff onto a qualification, please get in touch to find out more about the incentives available. If you are looking to find employment in the horse racing industry to complete an Apprenticeship, we have employers looking for staff with immediate starts. Some of the units you will complete are: • Horse anatomy, physiology and welfare • Horse Handling, Care and Welfare • The specific routines for working in a racing yard and taking horses racing including how to care for horses prior to and after strenuous work and racecourse performance • The industry protocol for taking a horse racing and how to lead up a Thoroughbred racehorse at the races. • Provides exercise regimes to racehorses as directed and effectively cares for horses prior to and after strenuous work and racecourse performance. The Dannevirke Hunt in beautiful Southern Hawkes Bay, New Zealand has been operating for 114 years and has a proven record of producing quality Huntsmen. The Dannevirke Hunt has a passionate and strong, friendly membership ranging in age from keen youth members to dedicated older members. Our Hunt country is stunning with wide ranging farm types from flat land to rolling hills and into stronger hill country with big open paddocks. Our properties are very well prepared while also offering the opportunity to hunt over traditional wire fences. The Hunt Kennels are situated on the outskirts of Dannevirke on a 24 acre farm. The kennels and 4 bedroom house provide excellent facilities for a Huntsman to base out of. The Hunt and it’s Committee are supportive of continued property and facility improvement and upgrades. This position offers a great opportunity for a competent rider who is passionate and loves to hunt, and who is keen to develop a career with hounds and horses in the great outdoors of our outstanding hunt countryside, offering the following - Great hunting on a variety of properties with a strong pack of Harrier Hounds The opportunity to develop skills as a Huntsman Support from passionate, enthusiastic and experienced Hunt members A desirable remuneration package which reflects the experience and resources the new Huntsman will bring. The Dannevirke Hunt season runs from late March through to the beginning of July with a total of about 30 hunts. We generally hunt 2 days a week - on one day in the weekend (Saturday or Sunday depending on circumstances) and also on a Wednesday. Exercising of the hounds usually begins in January. The position of Dannevirke Huntsman requires the following attributes - A competent horse person capable of hunting over a range of fences, with a team of horses suited to hunting Dannevirke country. Experience with handling hounds and with an absolute commitment to the care and welfare of the hounds. Honesty, with a strong work ethic. Good people skills, a positive attitude and the ability to work as part of a team. Physical fitness and ability to carry out the duties required of the position. Ability to tend to the property maintenance as required. A truck driver’s licence (minimum Class 2) and firearms licence OR a willingness to sit them prior to starting. Whipper-In Position in Pennsylvania, USA

***This is for a job in Pennsylvania, USA*** Summary of Job Function: The Whipper-In's primary responsibility is to assist the Huntsman in training and hunting the hounds (Hunting days: August - March, 3 days a week). In addition, they assist with the care of horses and hounds and maintenance of the Hunt property and Hunt country (Year-round). This is a full time, salaried role with a 6-day work week, health and retirement benefits, annual bonus, and 2 weeks paid time off during the non-hunting season. Housing may be included as well on a case-by-case basis. Major Duties: • Assist huntsman with hunting, exercising, and training hounds both on foot and on horseback. • Help Groom in stables daily with care of horses, tack & equipment, transport of horses, cleaning stalls etc. • Work with Huntsman and Groom to exercise and train staff horses. • Participate in regular countryside maintenance (trail clearing, jump building). • Perform Hunt property maintenance including mowing, trimming, gardening, snow and ice removal, fence building and repair, painting, and cleaning/repairing/maintaining equipment and buildings. • Learn the "Hunt County" and Hound names in order to provide the best sport possible. • Ability to lift 100lbs and run short distances. Additional Job Requirements as Needed: • Transport hounds for vet and breeding. • Assist with Kids Hunt Camp, Cheshire Races, and other Hunt activities. • Fill in for Huntsman as needed, including hunting hounds. • Fill in for Groom on days off/ vacation.
